With several million pistols sold and the fifth production generation now on the market, GLOCK pistols are now one of the best selling pistols in the world. Launched as an army firearm in the 1980's, with its polymer frame, it continues to prove itself today as the law enforcement weapon of choice for many police forces around the world. Sport shooters and hunters also love the affordable Austrian GLOCK. Although regular full-size models are not pistol compatible, they are used by many shooters - in the IPSC Production Class. The GLOCK is not very suitable for static targeting disciplines because its equipment and especially the trigger don't fit well here. Today's large tuning scene and aftermarket for GLOCKs, however, offers the possibility to optimize almost any pistol for tactical, dynamic or static range. In addition to the pure desire for development, many people are simply driven by the love of DYI. After all, guys who are already dabbling in model airplanes or electric trains will also appreciate the GLOCK's simple design and the many click-and-screw aftermarket parts.
In principle, a GLOCK weapon of any generation can be tuned. But tuners especially recommend Gen3 models - such as Dirk Frey (Waffenwelt) and Rolf B. Fischlein (RBF). Both gentlemen have many years of experience in their companies in modifying Austrian pistols. Aside from the fact that the Gen3 frame simply offers more material, there's also a simple argument in favor of this model: the aftermarket offers more options here. Tuners tend to give Gen4 models a wide berth, because technical problems arise here, especially on early models, and many parts of the tuning are not up to par.
, says Dirk Frey of Waffenwelt. Anyway, the tuning market is huge. Almost all mounts have alternatives on the market. Especially useful for many shooters and also inexpensive is a new trigger assembly and new sights.
There are many vendors on the market that specialize in complete trigger kits. ZEV Pro Trigger (unpackaged) includes new trigger shoe, including safety blade, as well as full articulation. The high quality Fulcrum Trigger (on the right) has an additional titanium striker especially for it.

Trigger tuning is common and probably one of the most necessary tuning steps, at least if you want to be sporty with your GLOCK. While you won't get the same performance from a trigger action vault as you would from a sport action pistol, its characteristics and weight can be noticeably improved. The simplest method is the so-called "25 cent trigger job". Here, the contact surfaces of the trigger linkage – where frictional forces occur – are polished to reduce mechanical friction. But most of the time it improves the trigger characteristics, not the trigger weight, because the spring weights are not changed. This is why many tuners also turn their attention to springs, as changing them will reduce trigger weight.

Waffenwelt offers a ZEV tuning spring kit in their catalog that should reduce trigger weight by a small amount. In addition to the connector, the firing pin spring, trigger spring and safety spring were also replaced (the trigger spring was not replaced on the Gen5). However, Dirk Frey recommends always trusting one supplier when replacing springs and not pairing springs from different aftermarket companies on the same trigger. The aftermarket is huge in the spring industry and should offer everyone a practical solution. In addition to ZEV, companies such as Ghost, Taran Tactical and Wolff can be listed here. RBF International also offers trigger kits for GLOCKs. The aftermarket offers complete kits (Lone Wolf, Apex Tactical, ZEV, ...), especially in the case of more complex trigger tuning, which includes adjustable triggers with aluminum shoes and partially finished parts. Therefore, in the European market, the complete ZEV Fulcrum trigger kit, including the titanium striker, sometimes reaches over the counter at around 450 euros.

One of the easiest ways to upgrade your pistol, and perhaps one of the most useful, can be equipped with new sights. The factory rear sight with its white-outlined rectangular notch can only deflect laterally, and the interplay with the wide, beefy front sight ensures the finest of light spaces. Choosing suitable sights depends a lot on the intended application: if the shooter wants to compete in dynamic disciplines or if the weapon is needed for self-defense, tactical sights make sense. It usually has a low overall length. This makes them easy to holster. And its geometry is clipped for fast target acquisition. There are also mixed types, which include an adjustable rear sight and do a balancing act between carrying and competition requirements. In the tactical arena, manufacturers include Dawson Precision, Warren Tactical and Taran Tactical Innovations to name a few.
Likewise, the aftermarket offers fully adjustable sights (LPA Sights) as well as sights designed for low visibility conditions with colored fiber optic or tritium inserts (Truglo, Hiviz, Novak). Even with the recently released GLOCK MOS models with their OR adapter plates, the market already offers more innovation: RBF International tuners have created their own solution to mount bigger game in the background scenes in front of the slide. To do this, they specially grind a dovetail on the regular MOS cover plate material. This allows the shooter to always choose between a red dot and their fully adjustable crosshairs, and quickly and easily change plates if needed.
